Training

Professional Development

Spriggs & Hollingsworth associates are given the opportunity to work on client matters early on, and we make sure they are equipped to do so successfully. To enhance this on-the-job experience, Spriggs & Hollingsworth partners provide on-site training for all associates on a monthly basis. These sessions make it easy for associates to develop their skills and learn from other professionals in the Firm. Topics are directly related to the work that we do, and associates are given the opportunity to suggest subjects as well.

Topics covered in our training sessions include:

  • Deposition nuts and bolts
  • Deposition tactics
  • Dealing with opposing counsel
  • Trial preparation
  • Preparing trial cross examination
  • Preparing direct trial testimony
  • Evidence
  • Motions practice
  • Brief writing
  • Dealing with the client
  • Defending a deposition/prepping the witness
  • Daubert practice
  • Dealing with expert witnesses

Technology Training

Continuous technology training are essential to the success of Spriggs & Hollingsworth. We currently offer two types of technology training for attorneys and staff at the Firm. The first, Software Intensive Sessions (SIS), last 3-4 hours and covers a variety of software packages, including but not limited to, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Concordance, IPRO and LiveNote. The second, "Brown Bag" training, is less intensive, lasting about 1 hour, and is more specific to a particular topic within those applications, such as how to do a table of authorities, how to add multimedia to a PowerPoint presentation, or how to complete a search in Concordance.

Spriggs & Hollingsworth believes that it is important to establish core technology competency expectations for everyone and delivers training designed to meet those goals. Our training facility is state-of-the-art with its high-tech projectors, customized desks and classes led by a certified trainer. This training facility is used for Software Intensive Sessions, "Brown Bag" training, Lexis/Westlaw training, as well as many other specialized training classes. Spriggs & Hollingsworth also provides one-on-one courses for those individuals who would like additional and/or specialized training.
